PIP: Causes of septic shock are examined, its clinical symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment are discussed, and data concerning the various methods used in the treatment of septic shock are presented. Septic shock is brought on by infectious agents as well as by a sudden mixture of endotoxins. Septic shock symptoms (in the early or hyperdynamic stage) include: an increase in white cell counts, a decrease in thrombocyte counts, elevated CVP, increased heart rate, and high blood sugar. The importance of treatment at the hyperdynamic stage is stressed. It is recommended that the shock be alleviated, the patient be given surgical treatment, and kept on oxygen. Septic shock has more serious implications than other forms of shock. The number of deaths attributed to septic shock is high, even with today's advanced medical technology. It is thus of vital importance that the nature of septic shock be fully understood, and that proper treatment be administered at the earliest stages, particularly at the hyperdynamic stage.
