The precise pathophysiologic processes underlying the prothrombotic or hypercoagulable state in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) remain uncertain. We hypothesized a relationship among abnormal platelet activation, angiogenic factors, and coagulation, thereby contributing to increased thrombogenecity.
