Tissue Doppler imaging is being increasingly used for assessing global ventricular function in systole and diastole, and for quantifying regional wall motion abnormalities both in systolic heart failure with mechanical dyssynchrony and ischemic heart disease. Its use as a predictive tool is recent and the authors review publications relating to this aspect.
