Cytokines, such as interleukin-10, and related genetic polymorphisms, have been implicated in the pathogenesis of chronic periodontitis. The aim of this study was to investigate a possible correlation between chronic periodontitis and genetic polymorphisms coding for two interleukin-10 related chemokines [interleukin-24 and regulated on activation, normal T cells expressed and secreted (RANTES)] as well as a RANTES receptor [CC chemokine receptor 5 (CCR5)].
