MSH: A CC-type chemokine that is a chemoattractant for EOSINOPHILS; MONOCYTES; and LYMPHOCYTES. It is a potent and selective eosinophil chemotaxin that is stored in and released from PLATELETS and activated T-LYMPHOCYTES. Chemokine CCL5 is specific for CCR1 RECEPTORS; CCR3 RECEPTORS; and CCR5 RECEPTORS. The acronym RANTES refers to Regulated on Activation, Normal T Expressed and Secreted.,NCI: This cytokine is one of the major HIV-suppressive factors produced by CD8+ cells. It functions as one of the natural ligands for the chemokine receptor CCR5 and it suppresses in vitro replication of the R5 strains of HIV-1, which use CCR5 as a coreceptor. (from LocusLink),NCI: A member of the interleukin-8 superfamily of cytokines, RANTES is released from platelets and activated T-cells, and is a selective chemoattractant for eosinophils, monocytes, and memory T-lymphocytes. RANTES expression is increased more than ten-fold in peripheral lymphocytes following mitogenic or antigenic stimulation. RANTES is one of the natu
