FUNCTION: Component of the anaphase promoting complex/cyclosome (APC/C), a cell cycle-regulated E3 ubiquitin ligase that controls progression through mitosis and the G1 phase of the cell cycle. The APC/C complex acts by mediating ubiquitination and subsequent degradation of target proteins: it mainly mediates the formation of 'Lys-11'-linked polyubiquitin chains and, to a lower extent, the formation of 'Lys-48'- and 'Lys-63'-linked polyubiquitin chains. PATHWAY: Protein modification; protein ubiquitination. SUBUNIT: The APC/C is composed of at least 12 subunits. ALTERNATIVE PRODUCTS: Event=Alternative splicing; Named isoforms=3; Name=1; IsoId=Q9UJX2-1; Sequence=Displayed; Name=2; IsoId=Q9UJX2-2; Sequence=VSP_008429, VSP_008430; Note=No experimental confirmation available; Name=3; IsoId=Q9UJX2-3; Sequence=VSP_037678; Note=No experimental confirmation available; PTM: Phosphorylated. Phosphorylation on Thr-562 occurs specifically during mitosis. SIMILARITY: Belongs to the APC8/CDC23 family. SIMILARITY: Contains 9 TPR repeats. SEQUENCE CAUTION: Sequence=AAC70920.1; Type=Erroneous initiation; Sequence=AAH05258.1; Type=Erroneous initiation; Sequence=AAH10944.1; Type=Erroneous initiation; Sequence=AAH17713.1; Type=Erroneous initiation; Sequence=AAS99353.1; Type=Erroneous initiation; Sequence=BAA75628.1; Type=Erroneous initiation; Sequence=BAD96970.1; Type=Erroneous initiation; Sequence=BAF84299.1; Type=Erroneous initiation; WEB RESOURCE: Name=NIEHS-SNPs; URL="http://egp.gs.washington.edu/data/cdc23/"; GENE SYNONYMS: ANAPC8.
