Edited: D'Eustachio, P, 2006-03-11 18:40:17, PAP is generated as a byproduct of sulfonation reactions in vivo; its hydrolysis to AMP and orthophosphate returns its constituents to the pool of molecules available for cytosolic nucleotide metabolism. Bisphosphate 3'-nucleotidase 1catalyzes this reaction efficiently in vitro; whether other nucleotidases also play a role in PAP breakdown in vivo is unknown.
