Elongation of very long chain fatty acids protein 6 (ELOVL6) catalyzes the reaction of palmitoyl-CoA and malonyl-CoA to form 3-oxooctadecanoyl-CoA (3-oxostearoyl-CoA), CO2, and CoASH (Shimamura et al. 2009). The localization of ELOVL6 to the endoplasmic reticulum membrane is inferred from that experimentally determined for the homologous mouse protein (Moon et al. 2001; Matsuzaka et al. 2002).
