Authored: D'Eustachio, P, 2010-03-14, Edited: D'Eustachio, P, 2010-05-08, Elongation of very long chain fatty acids protein 5 (ELOVL5) catalyzes the reaction of arachidonyl-CoA and malonyl-CoA to form 3-oxo-(7,10,13,16)-docosatetraenoyl-CoA, CO2, and CoASH. Localization of ELOVL5 to the endoplasmic reticulum membrane is inferred from that of other human ELOVL proteins; its catalytic activity has been studied in ELO- yeast cells expressing human ELOVL5 protein (Leonard et al. 2000).
