The process is Na+-independent and not coupled to H+ transport. As measured by Northern blotting SLC16A10 is widely expressed in the body but especially abundant in kidney. In situ hybridization studies indicate that the gene product is abundant in kidney proximal tubules (Kim et al. 2001; Kim et al. 2002; Park et al. 2005).
