Polyubiquitination of CRY proteins is directed by the FBXL3 component of SCF E3 ubiquitin ligase. The polyubiquitinated CRY proteins are recognized and degraded by the 26S proteasome. Degradation of CRY proteins occurs during the night and is necessary to allow new transcription of BMAL1:CLOCK/NPAS2 targets in the morning during the circadian cycle.,
