UDP-glucose may also possess pharmacological activity and is found to activate the orphan receptor P2Y14 (KIAA0001) (Chambers JK et al, 2000). Nucleotides known to activate P2Y receptors were inactive towards P2Y14. This receptor's actions are mediated by coupling with the G protein alpha Gi/o which inhibits adenylyl cyclase and thus, reduces cAMP accumulation (Fricks IP et al, 2009).
