It may participate in control of the cell cycle of endometrial carcinoma cells. Three transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified for this gene. The effects of P2Y2 are mediated by coupling with the G protein alpha Gq/11 subunits (Schachter JB et al, 1997). P2Y2 is a potential drug target for treating cystic fibrosis (Kellerman D et al, 2002).
