The cysteinyl-leukotrienes (cys-LTs) are potent smooth muscle contractile agents mediating bronchoconstriction. Examples are LTC4, LTD4 and LTE4. There are two human cys-LT receptors, 1 (Lynch KR et al, 1999) and 2 (Heise CE et al, 2000). They mediate their effects via coupling to the G protein alpha q/11 subunit (Sarau HM et al, 1999).
