Following fission of the phagosome vesicle from the plasma membrane, the phagosome undergoes maturation by a series of fusion and fission events, fusing with late endosomes and ultimately lysosomes, to form a phagolysosome. <br><br>fuses sequentially with sorting/early endosomes, late endosomes and finally lysosomes to acquire degradative capabilities. This process is referred to as phagosome maturation.,
