MODEL_NOTES=Panther Pathway: P00010 B cell activation entails the process by which a pre-B cell matures into a plasma cell. The signaling pathways that regulate this conversion are complex, but center around a complex of proteins referred to as the B cell receptor, or BCR. Ligation of the BCR by a cognate antigen initiates a number of downstream signaling events that lead, eventually, to an expansion in the number of B cells of the appropriate antigen specificity, and to their development of the ability to secrete antibody.
