Cellular thylakoid

The cellular thylakoids are formed usually by extensive invaginations of the cell membrane. In Synechocystis sp. strain PCC 6803, the thylakoid membranes are physically discontinuous from the plasma membrane, and thus represent bona fide intracellular organelles.
