Kinetochore

The kinetochore is a complex assembled at centromeric region of DNA, which provides the major attachement point for the spindle microtubules. In monocentric chromosomes, the kinetochores of point centromeres bind a single microtubule and the larger kinetochores of regional centromeres interact with a number of microtubules. In holocentric chromosomes, the kinetochores bind the diffuse centromere along the length of the chromosomes.
