Luminescent proteins, which are involved in the phenomenon of light emission in certain living organisms. E.g., green fluorescent protein which is unique among fluorescent proteins in that its chromophore is not a separately synthesized prostethic group but is composed of modified amino acid residues within its polypeptide chain.
