Protein involved in the modification (capping) of the 5' end of eukaryotic mRNAs. This modification occurs after the beginning of transcription in the nucleus, and consists of adding a guanosine nucleotide to the 5'-end of mRNAs and then, methylating the guanosine. Capping protects mRNAs at their termini against attack by phosphatases and other nucleases and promotes mRNA function at the level of initiation of translation.
