We describe the isolation, cloning and sequencing of the cellobiohydrolase 1 (EC 3.2.1.91)-encoding gene (cbh-1) of Neurospora crassa. The nucleotide and amino-acid sequences have high homology with the cbh-1 of Trichoderma reesei, Humicola grisea and Phanerochaete chrysosporium, with clear signal, catalytic, hinge and substrate-binding domains in that order.
