1-acyl-sn-glycerol-3-phosphate acyltransferases catalyzes the conversion of lysophosphatidate (LPA) compounds to phosphatidate (PA) compouds. LPA and PA are two types of phospholipids that are involved in signal transduction and in lipid biosynthesis in cells. Humans have at least five isoforms of the enzyme, encoded by |FRAME: HS09762|, |FRAME: HS09990|, |FRAME: HS08470|, |FRAME: HS00452| and |FRAME: HS08034|. Although they catalyze the same biochemical reaction, they differ in their relative function, tissue expression and regulation . The human |FRAME: HS09762| and |FRAME: HS09990| have been studied in some detail. In mice. mAGPAT1 and mAGPAT3 were ubiquitously expressed in most tissues, whereas mAGPAT2, mAGPAT4 and mAGPAT5 were expressed in a tissue-specific manner |CITS: [15367102]|. |FRAME: HS08470-MONOMER| is involved in metabolism of plasma lipoproteins including cholesterol. It has a region of low similarity to a region of S. cerevisiae Slc1p, a fatty acyltransferase.
