CSP: subacute, granulomatous arteritis involving the external carotid arteries, especially the temporal artery; occurs in elderly persons and may be manifested by constitutional symptoms, particularly severe headache, and sometimes sudden unilateral blindness; shares many of the symptoms of polymyalgia rheumatica.,NCI: An autoimmune, systemic, giant cell granulomatous arteritis predominantly involving the arteries that supply blood to the central nervous system, head and eyes. Superficial arteries of the scalp that are involved tend to be enlarged and tender. Signs and symptoms include headaches, myalgias, visual disturbances, and skin necrosis.
