NCI: Any of a group of tumors that develops from trophoblastic cells (cells that help an embryo attach to the uterus and help form the placenta) after fertilization of an egg by a sperm. The two main types of gestational trophoblastic tumors are hydatidiform mole and choriocarcinoma.,MSH: Gestational Trophoblastic diseases that are malignant. It does not include HYDATIDIFORM MOLE. However, there is a minority of authors that consider the term gestational trophoblastic neoplasia synonymous with gestational trophoblastic disease.,NCI: A diverse group of lesions characterized by excessive proliferation of trophoblasts. These include premalignant lesions: hydatidiform mole (complete and partial) and malignant disorders: invasive mole, choriocarcinoma, placental site trophoblastic tumor and miscellaneous trophoblastic lesions. These tumors are very chemosensitive. All produce Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin which is utilized as a tumor marker. - 2003
