NCI: Human Soluble Guanylate Cyclases (Adenylyl Cyclase 4/Guanylyl Cyclase Family) are heterodimeric (alpha/beta) nitric oxide-activated cytoplasmic enzymes that catalyze conversion of GTP to cGMP second messenger. The main receptors for nitric oxide in the cardiovascular system and for nitrovasodilator drugs, alpha/beta interaction is required for guanylyl cyclase activity. (NCI),NCI: Soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC) is a heterodimeric hemoprotein consisting of large alpha and small beta subunits, which catalyzes the conversion of GTP to cyclic GMP, a key signaling molecule in the eukaryotic cell. Some sGC subunits appear to exhibit preferential expression in some tissues. GCS-beta-2 contains a C-terminal isoprenylation/carboxymethylation consensus sequence. sGC is activated by nitric oxide. The nitric oxide/cGMP signaling pathway is important in several physiological functions including vascular smooth muscle relaxation, neuronal signal transduction, and inhibition of platelet aggregation.
