UMD: Detectors designed to provide a relative indication of the power of microwave radiation leakage. These detectors consist of a hand-held battery powered device that includes a sensitive probe that may use either thermal (e.g., a thermistor or thermocouple sensor) or electrical conversion (e.g., a semiconductor diode sensor) technologies to determine the radiated (i.e., leaked) microwave power, and a qualitative display. Microwave leakage detectors are used mainly to determine leakage from microwave ovens and other high-powered microwave equipment (e.g., heaters, dryers), typically near their doors, fittings, and hinges.
