NCI: A substance that is being studied as a treatment for cancer. It belongs to the family of drugs called alkylating agents.,PDQ: A prodrug belongs to sulfonate compound family with antineoplastic activity. Treosulfan alkylates DNA, causes DNA-DNA crosslinks and DNA strand breaks, thereby inhibiting DNA replication. This agent's proapoptotic effect might be mediated, at least in part, via protein kinase C signaling pathway. Due to its myeloablative and immunosuppressive effects, its use in conditioning regimens prior to allogeneic stem cell treatment (SCT) has been proposed.
