MSH: Integrated, computer-assisted systems designed to store, manipulate, and retrieve information concerned with the administrative and clinical aspects of providing medical services within the hospital.,UMD: Data management information systems designed to record, process, and display comprehensive financial, management, clinical, and/or patient data information related to the provision and utilization of hospitalwide services and facilities. Hospital information systems (HISs) typically include a combination of hardware (e.g., a local network including workstations, servers, and links) and firmware and/or software. Dedicated HISs intended to integrate all the information systems of a hospital (i.e., integrated hospital information systems or IHISs) are available; dedicated HISs that are only intended to keep a master patient index or information regarding the admission, discharge, and transfer of patients throughout the healthcare facility are also available.
