MSH: A tumor composed of spindle cells with a rich vascular network, which apparently arises from pericytes, cells of smooth muscle origin that lie around small vessels. Benign and malignant hemangiopericytomas exist, and the rarity of these lesions has led to considerable confusion in distinguishing between benign and malignant variants. (From Dorland, 27th ed; DeVita Jr et al., Cancer: Principles & Practice of Oncology, 3d ed, p1364),NCI: A type of cancer involving blood vessels and soft tissue.,NCI: A neoplasm originating from vascular pericytes (cells in the periphery of vessels), for which the malignancy status has not been established.,NCI: A mesenchymal tumor composed of dilated vascular spaces (some with a staghorn or bifed shape) throughout. The individual tumor cells are surrounded by reticulin everywhere, are negative for muscle, nerve sheath, and epithelial markers, and are positive for CD34 and CD99. The biologic behavior of hemangiopericytoma cannot always be predicted from the morphologic featu
