Furocoumarins

CSP: linear furanocoumarins found in many plants; they can intercalate DNA and, in an UV-initiated reaction of the furan portion, alkylate pyrimidines, resulting in photosensitivity.,MSH: The most prominent linear type of furocoumarin is PSORALEN. An example of the angular type of furocoumarin is angelicin. In plants, they derive from mevalonic acid addition to umbelliferone and subsequent cyclization.
