These glands produce sweat that reaches the surface of the skin by way of coiled ducts (tubes). The body is cooled as sweat evaporates from the skin.,NCI: An unbranched, coiled, tubular gland not associated with the hair follicle that promotes cooling by evaporation of its secretion. It is innervated by cholinergic nerve fibers.
