UMD: Antimicrobial dressings impregnated with iodine solutions (e.g., povidone-iodine). The most common substrate used in these dressings is gauze, but other fabrics are also used. Iodine-impregnated antimicrobial dressings reduce the number of and/or kill microorganisms (bacteria); they are intended mainly to reduce the risk of infections in wounds and burns.
