UMD: Depressors designed to displace by compression tissue or organs, facilitating the performance of surgical procedures. These depressors are typically handheld, manual reusable instruments in a variety of shapes and sizes that may be held or fixed to the organ or tissue for a long period of time during the surgical procedure. Surgical depressors are used in oral, intracranial, ophthalmic, orthopedic, and other procedures; some depressors may be used also to facilitate the evaluation of organs before surgery.
