NCI: Any bacterial organism that can be assigned to the species Gordonia sputi.,NCI: A species of aerobic, Gram positive, coryneform bacteria assigned to the phylum Actinobacteria. This species is catalase positive, slightly acid fast, nonmotile and metabolizes D arabitol, succinate and caprate. G. sputi is an opportunistic pathogen, causing endocarditis and bacteremia in surgical and catheterized patients.
