NCI: A member of the MET receptor family. The protein is membrane-spanning disulfide-linked heterodimer with intracellular tyrosine kinase activity. It is synthesized as a single polypeptide which is processed to the 185-kD heterodimer of 35-kD (alpha) and 150-kD (beta) subunits joined by the predicted disulfide linkage. The protein is a specific cell surface receptor for macrophage stimulating protein. Targeted expression in mice results in frequent, multiple lung tumors. It may also play a role in progression of some colorectal cancers (from OMIM, Oncogene 2002;21:6382-6 and Oncogene 2003;22:186-97)
