UMD: Systems that include a neuromuscular stimulator as an integral part of a therapeutic ultrasound unit. These systems are used to produce a rhythmic contraction/release of injured muscles to promote the removal of metabolic by-products while applying ultrasound treatments. Neuromuscular stimulation combined with ultrasound therapy is used to prevent scar tissue formation in healing tissues and to help reduce spasms and pain.
