UMD: Sets of devices designed to deliver insulin to ambulatory individuals with diabetes. Typically, a catheter connects an insulin infusion pump to a needle inserted subcutaneously in the abdomen. The administration sets include a pump reservoir (similar to a syringe) filled with insulin, a portable battery-operated pump, and a control (e.g., a computer chip) that allows the patient to control the amount of insulin delivered. The devices are usually contained in a plastic case and can be attached to a belt or inserted in a pocket.
