These beds typically consist of a closely woven filter sheet that rests loosely atop a tank that contains tiny soda-lime glass or ceramic microspheres, which in turn are suspended by a continuous flow of warm air. Air-fluidized fixed beds are intended for a variety of severe skin disorders, particularly in treating patients with burns or decubitus ulcers.
