UMD: Swabs including tips (e.g., cotton, polyurethane foam) presoaked with an antiseptic (e.g., isopropyl alcohol, benzalkonium chloride); some include agents that effectively kill pathogenic microorganisms (germicides), such as iodine or Povidone-iodine (Betadine). Most antiseptic swabs inhibit the growth and development of microorganisms without necessarily killing them; they are used to clean wounds, cuts, and abrasions.
