SPN: A hyperbaric chamber is a device that is intended to increase the environmental oxygen pressure to promote the movement of oxygen from the environment to a patient's tissue by means of pressurization that is greater than atmospheric pressure. This device does not include topical oxygen chambers for extremities (Sec. 878.5650).,UMD: Chambers designed for patient treatment in which the air pressure is raised at levels above the atmospheric pressure. Monoplace chambers consist of a horizontal metallic cylinder with a metal hatch at one end, while multiplace chambers can accommodate more than one patient at a time and allow medical personnel to remain inside the chamber. Typically, pure oxygen is delivered for patient breathing, either by a mask or hood or by oxygen pressurization of the chamber.
