Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a polypeptide with specific effects on endothelial cell growth and blood vessel permeability. Recent studies demonstrated a key role for VEGF in tumor neovascularization, which is a prerequisite for tumor proliferation and metastasis.
