The Jan Szmur?o activity in hospitals and infirmaries in Warsaw during the second world war and his participation in Warsaw insurrection are described. His contribution to revival of medical sciences at Lód? after the second world war are presented. Szmur?o is shown as a one of a precursor of physiotherapy and climatobalneology, and as person of merit for the development of health-resort Ciechocinek. He is also shown as a member of many medical societies, as a cofounder of Polish Otolaryngological Society. At last, the character of his personality, his likes and dislikes etc are depicted.
