A technique is presented for gentle soft-tissue release in congenital dislocation of the hip that resists reduction even after traction. The technique involves the release of the adductor longus and iliopsoas tendon, and the opening of the anteromedial joint capsule, if necessary. It is hoped that the more frequent use of this technique will lessen the necessity for pelvic or femoral osteotomy or for a wider open reduction, thereby avoiding the problems associated with these procedures.
