A case of rapid onset cervical cancer after several recent negative Papanicolaou smears in a 29-year-old woman is reported. Although radical hysterectomy was performed, the cancer was limited to the cervix and pelvic nodes were free; the patient died within 9 months. Autopsy revealed generalised dissemination of the tumour with metastases to rare involved organs such as kidney, heart and tongue.
