Pancreas divisum is a frequently encountered congenital anatomic variant of the pancreatic ductal system. Its presence alone rarely causes pancreatitis on the basis of "functional obstruction" at the minor papilla. Endoscopic and surgical interventions, to relieve hypothetical obstruction at the minor papilla, may not be necessary at all.
