PIP: Since 1985, the author who is a midwife, has been participating in a sex education and cohabitation exercise that takes a few hours per class in a high school in Sweden. It was difficult to engage teachers; thus, with a male school nurse, boys and girls were first addressed separating and then together. They prescribed a video about sex and cohabitation and described menstruation, contraceptive methods, anatomy and sexually transmitted diseases. Group discussions followed on these topics. With either the nurse, the school psychologist, or the program administrator. After 1988, when youth counseling began, counseling sessions were added as part of cohabitation education. In the fall of 1989, the young people were asked to write down their own questions anonymously. These encounters proved to be valuable, as adolescents need to meet with adults to ask intimate questions about sexuality and cohabitation.
