Unexpected splenectomy is sometimes performed simultaneously with radical esophagectomy for esophageal carcinoma because of spleen injury or anatomical abnormity. This study was to investigate the influence of unexpected simultaneous splenectomy on postoperative complications and prognosis of patients undergoing radical esophagectomy for esophageal carcinoma.
