Osteopontin is expressed in bone and stored in hard tissues while it promoted survival of endothelial cells and enhances angiogenesis towards bone in ectopic implantation experiments. As regulation of bone remodeling in osteoporosis and other metabolic bone diseases is an important issue and is influenced by the interaction between bone and vessels. Molecular mechanisms involved in the angiogenesis in bone should be further investigated.
