Lumboperitoneal shunts have long been used in the treatment of benign intracranial hypertension, postoperative pseudomeningocele, CSF leak and communicating hydrocephalus. Although they can provide a rapid and effective resolution of the symptoms there are major disadvantages associated with their use.
