PIP: The direct action of 60 and 120 mcg/kg/feed diethylstilbestrol (DES) and 120 or 240 mcg/kg/feed estradiol were studied in rats. DES, but not estradiol, inhibited body growth and appetite, and impaired reproductive capacity. It is concluded that low doses of DES have some effect on reproductive function and that an in dose to 90-100 mcg/kg/feed completely inhibits reproductive capacity. It is recommended that DES should not be used in animal husbandry.
